A magnificent finalè to The Alternative Queen of Bath Contest 2012

What a show, what Queens, what performances and what a venue. The runner up was the brilliant Queen Eau de toilette and the winner was sheepish Queen Baa-th. Thank you to one and all.

Alternative Queen of Bath to be crowned today

The winner of the Alternative Queen of Bath Contest will be announced later today when the competition draws to a conclusion with a sumptuous coronation ceremony. The anticipation builds as final preparations for the 2 hour contest finale, take place. Compere, 'Fool Britannia' will be hosting the event in a fashion befitting an alternative queen contest and judges: Edward VII, Alternative Miss Bristol and the Severed head of Anne Boleyn are primed and ready to assess the contestants final performances. 


Of course all the Queens will be great and have fun showing off in spectacular style. But there can only be one winner of this years crown. Will it be: 

• Queen Afro Ben, 
• Queen Leonora, 
• Queen Eau de Toilette, 
• Queen Baaath, 
• Queen Poetrix Regina, 
• Queen Lula Loop, or 
• Cherharazard Queendom?

The Alternative Queen of Bath Contest on Radio Bristol

Tune in to Radio Bristol this weekend and your in for a right cockney treat in the form of your right royal compere featuring on Radio Bristol. "Fool Britannia", is due to be interviewed by Ali Vowles at 6:50 am on Saturday Morning about The Alternative Queen of Bath contest. Why not have a listen before tucking into those jellied eels?

Alternative Queen of Bath heralds Fringe Finalè

Finalists announced for Alternative Queen of Bath Contest
Organisers have revealed the final shortlist of contestants for this years Alternative Queeen of Bath Contest after deliberating the superb standard of applications received. Finalists are to appear at the climax of the competition which is due to be held at the Speigeltent on Sunday 10th June as part of Bath Fringe Festival. This most regal of contests will form the finalè of the Exposition of Cabaret, Vintage Fashion and Burlesque.

This years contestants include the Queen of Birds, Cherharzrd Queendom, Queen Lula Loop, Queen Baaath and others. They will be paraded before their subjects within the splendor of the Speigeltent where Edward VII, the Severed Head of Anne Boleyn and the reigning Alternative Miss Bristol 2012, will judge their final performance.

The audience, who will be her majesty’s subjects, are encouraged to plan their outfits too, in order to get Regal at the Speigel.

Promoters, Smutter & Snells, have also announced that ‘Fool Brittannia’ will be comparing this years event. Fool Brittannia said “We have a great line up of judges who I’m sure will, with the exception of Anne Boleyn, be able to keep their heads when making their decisions.”

A lavish coronation ceremony will follow the competition where the successful contestant will take their rightflul place on a bespoke made throne and adorned with crown jewels befitting their title. 

Local Sponsors have been keen to support this stately event. David Hammonds Photography, The Framing Workshop, The Raven and Sainsbury’s, all have agreed to contribute prizes for the lucky winner and runners-up of this years crown.

The Alternative Queen of Bath contest announces judges

The severed head of Anne Boleyn is set to become one of the judges of Baths first Alternative Queen competition, part of this years Bath Fringe Festival which begins this week. This most regal of contests will form the finale of the Exposition of Cabaret, Vintage Fashion and Burlesque, being held at the Speigeltent on the 10^th June.

The late Tudor Queen will join other Judges to decide who will win the enviable title of Alternative Queen of Bath 2012. Promoters, Smutter & Snells, have also announced that other judges will include Edward VII,  the severed head of Anne Boleyn and the reigning Alternative Miss Bristol 2012.

The theme for this years event will of course ‘60 Glorious Years’ and contestants costumes and titles should reflect a momentous event that has occurred since 1952. A lavish coronation ceremony will follow the competition where the successful contestant will take their rightflul place on a bespoke made throne and adorned with crown jewels befitting their title.

Audience members are also encouraged to plan their outfits too in order to get Regal at the Speigel.

The Alternative Queen of Bath contest is inspired by Andrew Logan, sculptor and English accentric, who created the now notorious Alternative Miss World competion that has been held in London since 1972.

Compere Countess Ars’Uppi said “We have a great line up of judges who I’m sure will, with the exception of Anne Boleyn, be able to keep their heads when making their decisions.“

Contest organisers confirm that there is still time to enter the competition which closes on May 31st.

Contestants sought for Bath's first alternative queen contest

Baths first “Alternative Queen” competition promises to be a right royal delight.

If you consider yourself slightly bizarre and eccentric then you are most cordially invited to enter this regal jubilee pageant. Part of this years Fringe Festival, The Alternative Queen of Bath contest will form the finale of the Exposition of Cabaret, Vintage Fashion and Burlesque, in association with Smutter & Snells and Bath Fringe, being held at the Speigeltent on the afternoon of Sunday 10th June.

Taking inspiration from Andrew Logan’s ‘Alternative Miss World’ this true diamond event promises to be a right royal delight. The theme will be of course ‘60 Glorious Years’ and contestants costumes and titles should reflect a momentous event that has occurred since 1952. It could be their birth, death, punk, space travel, the digital age or they could enter simply because they are truly blue blooded!

Promoters, Smutter & Snells, have announced that the contest will be hosted by Countess Ars’Uppi, compere of Bath's premier burlesque night, Coco Boudoir. When asked about the event, The Countess said "Our gracious Queen has enjoyed 60 years of frocking up on behalf of the nation, why not share that experience by showing some of your own fabulous creations in this celebration of sequins and velvet ".

Contest organisers are keen to encourage people to find their creative side "we are looking for people who enjoy dressing up, have their tongues firmly in their cheeks and would really relish being Bath’s Alternative Queen." says the Countess.

Contestants will need to be 18 or over, have a title and a concept for showing off, including costume design and a short performance.

 Why not define  your creative true side in a right royal way and apply to become a contestant in this most regal of competitions. All you have to do is come up with a good idea and complete the application form under the "apply" tab above. We have to have a selection process because lovely as it would be having lots of Queens turn up on the day we can only entertain 6 Majesties on stage as we only have the glorious Spiegeltent until 6pm as the Fringe have another fab event happening there on the evening.
