Inspiration

The Alternative Queen of Bath Contest aims to follow Andrew Logan's creativity and promises to be a right royal delight. Bath’s most beautiful and eccentric individuals, wherever and whoever they are, will be able to enter this most regal of pageants.
The theme will be of course ‘60 Glorious Years’ and costumes should reflect a momentous event that has occurred since 1952. It could be your birth, your death, punk, space travel, the digital age or you could enter simply because you are truly blue blooded!

Everyone needs to show off now and again, but we all need a little inspiration. This page provides visual examples and also some interviews with artist Andrew Logan and contestants in the Alternative Miss World. Have a dip into these and get the motivation you need to create something special.

The next video demonstrates that the people backstage are ordinary people - you could do it too

Inspiration for holding Baths first Alternative Queen Contest has come mainly from the work of Andrew Logan's Alternative Miss World.

Andrew Logan belongs to a unique school of English eccentrics. One of Britain's principal sculptural artists, he challenges convention, mixes media and plays with our artistic values.

He introduced his Alternative Miss World event back in 1972, but its focus was not about beauty but about the transformation of the ordinary into the extraordinary. Nine Alternative Miss World events have been held since it began, each one becoming bigger and more lavish. Some Words from Andrew Logan himself might prove inspirational:

A film depicting the story behind Andrew Logan and his fabulous Alternative Miss World Show was released in 2011. The film, entitled "The British Guide to Showing Off" chronicled the history of the event from 1972 to present and invited the viewer to join in with Andrews friends and family in the lead up to the 2009 show in London's historic Roundhouse. Recommended viewing indeed.
